Protocol
RDP
Remote Desktop Protocol
Microsoft's protocol for controlling a Windows machine's desktop over the network.
RDP exposed to the internet is one of the most common ways into a network: attackers guess or buy passwords and log in like a remote employee. Putting RDP behind a VPN or gateway with multi-factor authentication removes most of that risk.
