VPN
Virtual private network
An encrypted tunnel that puts a remote device on a private network, as if it were plugged in at the office.
Corporate VPN gateways sit on the internet edge by design, so a flaw in one can hand an attacker a foothold inside the network. Many of the most-exploited vulnerabilities of recent years are in VPN and remote-access appliances.
