Protocol
HTTPS
HTTP, the language of the web, sent inside a TLS-encrypted connection.
HTTPS is ordinary web traffic protected by TLS, so nobody between you and the site can read or change it, and the certificate shows you reached the real site. It does not say anything about whether the site itself is trustworthy: phishing sites use HTTPS too.
