Active Directory

Microsoft's directory of users, computers and permissions that most corporate Windows networks are built on.

Active Directory decides who can log in where. Attackers who reach it aim for domain administrator rights, which give control of every machine joined to the domain; that is the usual last step before ransomware is deployed.
